Our Team of Birds
Here are our team of Owls used in demonstrations, experiences etc. along with the name of the bird and a little something about them.
Reuben Indian Eagle Owl (Bubo bengalensis) Reuben came to us as a rescue at about eleven months old after being a pet, we think he is about eleven years old but are not sure because we had no previous history with him. He has turned out to be a wonderful display bird and is very calm and well mannered making him a hit with people of all ages. |
Acorn Tawny Owl (Strix aluco) Acorn is seven years old and has been with us since he was very small, he enjoys coming out to the shows and is very popular with everyone, he is very well mannered and brilliant with children and is happy to sit on the glove and be admired. |
Foster Canadian Great Horned Owl (Bubo virginianus wapacuthu) Foster is seven years old this year and although Great Horned Owls have a reputation for being aggressive he is very placid and well behaved, he is a very striking owl and came to us at about a year old as he needed a new home. |
Zulu Mackinders Eagle Owl (Bubo capensis mackinderi) Zulu is two years old and I was lucky enough to hand rear him, a rare treat for me as most of my Owls are rescues. Zulu grew up in the house with us and his favourite place to sit when he started to jump up onto things was the cooker where he could sit and look out of the kitchen window. |
Ben Ashy-faced Owl (Tyto glaucops) Ben is four years old and was bred at The Screech Owl Sanctuary in Cornwall, he is a big attraction at the shows as although he is a member of the Barn Owl family and has the characteristic heart shaped face that this species all have he has a very dark face and body. This species of Owl became virtually extinct in it's native habitat in Dominica and the Caribbean and things are not good for this species in the wild at the moment. |
Nellie Barn Owl(Tyto alba) Nellie aged 5 is a Barn Owl an is valued member of the flying team of Chrissie's owls attending most school visits. |
Wilf American Male Kestrel () Wilf the American Male Kestrel is 3 and also joins our flying team. |
